Connecting With Spirit – A Preview

“Some stories don’t have a clear beginning, middle, and end.  Life is about NOT knowing, having to change, taking the moment and making the best of it, without knowing what’s going to happen next.  Delicious ambiguity…” -Gilda Radner

I’m really excited about my presentation on TOMORROW on the Connecting With Spirit for Life & Business Success! The series began last week with speakers Andrea Beaudoin of Align Your Energy and Marie Tucker of My Empowerment Coach. This week, the featured speakers are Jennifer Bloome, the Fertile Business Midwife TODAY at noon EDT and Yours Truly, Me, tomorrow. Next week’s speakers are Heather Mendel and April Buffalo-Robe and the final week’s speakers are Tam Veilleux and Dr. Jennifer Howard. It’s not too late to register for this NO COST webinar series and receive the recordings from last week’s speakers!

The title of my presentation is “An Organic Approach to Cultivating the Authentic Youâ„¢.” Sound familiar? Well, you’re right! It’s my tagline AND the name of my blog; and it describes how both my life and business philosophies have evolved over the years and how that evolution has enriched my work with my clients. If you’re looking for the Magic Pill, my approach probably isn’t right for you…But, then, you do know, there is no such thing as the Magic Pill, right?

So, here’s a little sneak preview of what I’ll be talking about on Thursday…

It’s a mouthful, for sure – An Organic Approach to Cultivating the Authentic Youâ„¢ – and what the heck do I mean by it?

A couple of years ago, someone had invited me to join a business networking group and when I declined, he asked me why. I told him that I preferred to do my marketing in a more organic way. He looked at me like I was nuts!

For many, the word organic holds a meaning of raising a garden, etc. without the use of pesticides. That’s not what I’m talking about! I’m talking about this definition: Developing in a manner analogous to the natural growth and evolution characteristic of living organisms;  arising as a natural outgrowth.

Let me explain…

In working with women for over 15 years to help them make changes in their lives, I’ve noticed that most of us tend to want to FORCE change upon ourselves.  We’ve all done it, so have I. And, it comes from a place of believing that there is something WRONG with us.

I’ve come to think of change, or evolving, less as fixing what we deem as wrong and and more about embracing what feels right for you and making more of that happen.  It’s all about an ongoing process, so I’m suggesting you may need more time to figure out what you want for yourself instead of what you think you should do or have to do.

So, when I say cultivating the authentic you, I’m suggesting that you promote the growth or development of the genuine and real you. Ah, that sounds so simple! We all know who we are, right? And, we’re living out our heart’s desire, serving our highest purpose, using our natural gifts and talents?

Or, we’re at least heading in the right direction?

What?

No, you say?

Houston, we have a problem…

Hhmmmm, this seems to be a big sticking point and frustration for many of us women – we don’t know who we really are or why we want to make the changes we say we want to make. We are the same wonderful women who are talented attorneys & physicians – engineers who can mastermind how to get a spacecraft to space and back safely – women who can plan, delegate and pull off the school carnival with no problem.  Remember this TV commercial for Enjoli perfume? “I can bring home the bacon, fry it up in a pan and never let you forget you’re a man!”

We perform and know ourselves very well in the ROLES we play -   Roles we may have chosen OR roles that feel like they were chosen for us. We appear to have this great life, yet we’re miserable!  And, we can’t figure out why we’re so unhappy if we have this great life.  Oh, yeah, and let’s not forget – we feel guilty, to boot, because we have this great life and we’re miserable!

Women come to me for help to make these arbitrary changes like trying to lose weight or getting themselves into a fitness routine or wanting to begin a meditation practice or some type of spiritual practice to relieve their stress. They believe these changes are something they SHOULD do and something that will finally make them happy with their lives.  And, it doesn’t work.  Why?

Because, we’re not addressing the real issues. Why? Because it’s so much easier and less scary and feels less selfish to distract ourselves with all this external crap than it is to embrace and accept our own internal wants and needs. We’re not listening to the little voice telling us to live our deepest desires – we’re covering our ears with all the STUFF we’re keeping ourselves busy with.

So, how do we UNcover our ears? Well, join me tomorrow to hear some ideas about how to do that very thing – a journey through the seasons of organic transition. Hope you can make it!

  1. Great piece Lisa! This week I can “connect” with everything you say. And I downloaded your webinar, so good to hear your voice. You sound just like I thought you would ;-). Had totally forgotten about that “fry up bacon, throw in pan” ad. Neat flashback. Can’t wait to hear your full webinar, thanks for Facebook post on this.

Value your ideas and organic approach to ME. I am getting there, not because I know what I’m doing, but because I’ve been “flip flopping” through life and yes, accepting forced change in my life. It’s been a wild ride past few weeks with several issues that you’re aware of, but somehow it feels like it’s right (the voice). It is scary ride, so perhaps I’m allowing the organic approach. It’s been so much more internal changes than external for me.

So guess I need to start cultivating it daily, instead of letting life happen to me :-) Recently I have been busy and trying to be me and be passionate about what I feel, and it is so much better and fulfilling. Tks for the life coaching and this info Lisa. Great stuff. Hope your webinar gets to the masses! Shall I repost your link to this nationwide?

    • Okay, just listened to the actual webinar…it’s not just great…it’s FANTASTIC! Required listening for everybody. Thank you for sharing this. I hope everyone sees the “gift” that this is.

    • Anita, thanks so much for the kind words. I’m pleased this “organic approach” resonates with you! It’s funny – yes, being proactive and taking action based on our priorities, talents and passions propels us towards our most authentic selves, and at the same time, part of this process is so much about responding to the events of our life that do feel forced upon us. Somewhere between our efforts and those of the divine, we “cultivate” the real us. Sounds like you’re doing just that. And, yes, please feel free to share the link to the webinar and to this blog. Lisa :-)

  2. …..”Mother who won’t take her medication”.. I arrived at this realization yesterday. It may scare me when she’s on her deathbed again, but for now, I’m okay with it. Yes, all the bad things that have happened to me, have turned out to be the best things. The universe has given me many silver linings these past few weeks of bad. Now I guess I need to harvest the authentic me and share my gifts and talents and learn more from your life coaching. Tk you most sincerely, again Lisa. You are awesome, so glad our paths crossed.
